Barak: MKs should be allowed to simultaneously serve as mayors

Members of Knesset should be allowed to simultaneously serve as mayors, Labor chairman and Defense Minister Ehud Barak said in a speech to mayors from across the country at the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
"We are wasting tremendous human resources by not allowing you to serve in the Knesset," Barak said to the mayors.
The Knesset decided to prohibit MKs from holding other roles 15 years ago. Before that, MKs not only served as mayors, they also maintained businesses and private law practices. The practice was stopped because of conflicts of interest.
