Barghouti: Circumstances that led to Second Intifada still exist

Barghouti Circumstances

Jailed Tanzim leader and Fatah Central Committee member Marwan Barghouti warned Sunday that the circumstances which led to the Second Intifada still prevailed and called on the Palestinians to conduct a "peaceful resistance" campaign. In a message transmitted from the Israeli prison where he has been incarcerated for seven years, Barghouti also urged the Palestinians to set up a popular movement against Jewish settlement activity. He went on to claim that Israel was not interested in peace and that "whoever thinks it's possible to make peace with the current Israeli government is being delusional." Barghouti praised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for insisting on a settlement construction freeze before peace talks can resume.
