Beduin man shot dead in family feud

An ongoing feud between two Beduin families in Rahat erupted into a gunfight early on Friday, claiming the life of a young man and leaving a teenager hospitalized.
The families have been involved in a conflict that may have begun over a minor fight between teenagers from the two sides several months ago, police suspect.
An escalating tit-for-tat conflict reached new heights when police received reports of shots fired in Rahat's Neighborhood 12 over the weekend.
Emergency services evacuated a badly injured man in his 20s to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where he died of his gunshot wounds. A second youth, 17, is in moderate condition with gunshot wounds.
Police arrested one man on suspicion of being linked to the murder.
In the coming days, the Negev police sub-district's Arab Affairs officer will also attempted to mediate between the two sides, to avert future revenge attacks.
Police in the south often attempt to blend traditional law enforcement efforts with dialogue with influential members of the Beduin community to try and lower rates of violence.
Youths in Rahat held a large demonstration last year to protest against acts of deadly violence.
