Bennett calls for end to attacks on Lotan, PM's hostage issues representative

Education Minister Naftali Bennett called Friday for an end  to the attacks against Colonel (res.) Lior Lotan, the prime minister's representative dealing with hostage issues, of whom footage was made public Thursday in which he threatened the Mengistu family whose son is missing in Gaza and supposedly held by Hamas.
"I call for an end to the attacks on Lior Lotan, who works voluntarily in dealing with hostage issues," Bennett said. "Even if he was wrong. It can happen to us all."
"Lotan is an Israeli hero who devoted his life to the security of Israel," he said.
Bennett said Lotan's intent was harmless, and stemmed from his desire to minimize media attention so that Hamas would not be able to "raise its price" in a future exchange for Mengistu.
"The public lynch must stop here and now," Bennett said.
