The Knesset passed a bill in its preliminary reading on Wednesday that would limit the amount of time that customers could be on hold to three minutes.
The bill, which was sponsored by Labor MK Eitan Cabel, requires companies to allow customers to leave a message with their number and return their call within three hours.
The government supported the bill, which passed unanimously. The bill would apply to the customer service departments of companies with at least 10,000 customers.
"We hope that this would improve the quality of service and prevent customers from wasting their time," Cabel wrote in the bill.
