Bill would grant 5-year visa for non-citizen Jews in Israel

Jews in Israel who are not citizens will be granted five-year residence visas, as opposed to the current 27 months, according to a bill prepared for its first reading in the Knesset Interior and Environmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
The bill, proposed by MK Avraham Michaeli (Shas), is meant to save anyone eligible under the Law of Return time and effort dealing with bureaucracy, in that they will not have to renew their visa as often.
Michaeli also explained that the bill will give residents more time to decide if they want to make aliyah.
The bill is expected to be brought to a vote in its first plenum reading in the coming weeks. It will then return to the committee before it is brought to its second and third (final) readings.
