B’Tselem: IDF demolitions leaves 110 Palestinians homeless

The Civil Administration on Tuesday morning demolished 22 temporary structures in two herding Palestinian communities in the South Hebron Hill, according to the non-governmental group B’Tselem.

It explained that 110 people were now homeless. The Civil Administration would not comment on the matter.

It’s believed that the Civil Administration intended to demolish some 40 structures built without authorizations in those two communities, Jinba and Halawa, which are located in the 918 IDF firing range. But they stopped the demolitions after an attorney for the two communities obtained an emergency injunction from the High Court of Justice.

Jinx and Halawa are among eight communities, of some 1,000 people which had been under threat of eviction, so that the IDF could use the area for a training ground. These communities have been in a protracted legal battle with the state that dates back to 1999.

In 2013, the High Court of Justice turned the matter over to mediators in hopes that amicable resolution could be fond to the issue of where the communities should be located.

Those negotiations broke down this month.
