The cabinet on Sunday passed a proposed amendment to the Citizenship Law requiring those who seek to acquire citizenship to swear their loyalty to Israel as a "Jewish and democratic state."
The measure passed with a vote of 22-8.
The new version of the law does not apply to those who immigrate to Israel and acquire citizenship through the Law of Return.
