Culture Ministry to allocate NIS 2 million to locate artwork belonging to Holocaust victims

The Culture and Sports Ministry will allocate some NIS two million towards locating artwork belonging to Holocaust victims, the Knesset State Control Committee announced this week.
The committee convened to follow up and the report issued earlier this month by State Comptroller Yosef Shapira, which slammed the Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets as "inadequately" prepared for the termination of its activities, set to end December 2017.  The allocation of the funds towards locating lost artwork is one of the recommendations issued in the report.
"Everyone is interested in providing as many rights to Holocaust survivors, heroes of the Holocaust who live here with us. The State has a moral and ethical debt to the victims and their heirs,” Committee Chairwoman Karin ElHarrar said during the discussion.
