Digital bus signs to be installed throughout capital

An initiative to install electronic bus signs designating bus arrival times throughout the capital began Sunday, the Jerusalem Municipality announced in a statement. Installation of the electric signs, which are similar to those used for light rail stops, was initiated by the Jerusalem Municipality and Transportation Ministry.

The municipality said 240 electronic information signs will be distributed throughout the city, costing NIS 70 million. All the signs will be partially solar-powered, and meet accessibility standards for citizens with disabilities, the municipality said.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat lauded the initiative as a significant achievement in upgrading the capital’s public transportation standards to the highest standards in the nation.

“Jerusalem is heading towards having the most advanced and efficient public transportation system in the country,” he said in the statement. “We see great importance in creating a modern public transportation system, which meets the needs of the residents and continues to be responsive to the public.”
