Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein met in Jerusalem with speakers of US state houses of representatives on Wednesday, praising them for their support of Israel.
New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver led the group.
Edelstein especially thanked Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives Tahrohon Wayne Shannon, 35, for helping pass a resolution unconditionally supporting Israel in March. He plans to meet with Shannon and Oklahoma politicians when they visit Israel again in October.
“I’m happy I don’t have to dedicate this meeting to justifying having the Jewish People live in its land,” Edelstein said.
“The Israeli parliament, which has representatives of all the populations in the country, does not rest for a minute. We were just elected, and now we’re in the middle of the tumultuous process of authorizing a budget.”
Edelstein described the chief rabbi election process, after members of the group expressed curiosity on the topic.
At the end of the visit, Edelstein brought the American politicians to a balcony in the Knesset with a view of Jerusalem and talked to them about the city.
Earlier on Wednesday, the group met with MKs David Rotem (Yisrael Beytenu) and Shuli Muallem (Bayit Yehudi) and discussed the economy.
