Father and son killed by car near Elyakim junction

Aryeh Ahdari and his son Ido, who went for a Sunday night stroll, were killed as they were hit by a car on Route 70 near the Elyakim junction. The distraught driver of the vehicle called police moments after the accident, saying, "I've just hit someone, or something, and there's extensive damage to my car." Police arrived at the scene and found the body of a 51-year-old man in a ditch some 100 meters from the car. He was pronounced dead by an MDA team. The body was declared as unidentified, but just when it was about to be transferred to the Abu Kabir forensics institute, a man turned up at the scene looking for his brother after having heard about the accident on the radio. After identifying the body as his sibling, he then proceeded to tell police that his brother had gone for a walk with his 24-year-old nephew. Police resumed their search and soon found the second body in a nearby field. The driver - a 41-year-old man from the Galilee village of Mrar - was arrested, and police suspect that he fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle.
