Finance Minister Lapid declares 2014 a drought year in Israel

Finance Minister Yair Lapid approved a decision on Sunday to declare 2014 a drought year in the Negev, as well as other parts of the South and the North.
The decision came after agricultural areas damaged by the drought were examined and losses to farmers were evaluated. Farmers who produce wheat, barley, clover, peas, beans, chickpeas, oats and other crops will be provided with assistance from the government.
It is estimated that compensation to farmers will cost NIS 10 million, while in previous drought years it reached nearly NIS 100 million.
