Flug sworn in as BOI Governor

Karnit Flug on Wednesday was sworn in Bank of Israel governor, a position that has remained unfilled for 136 days since Stanley Fischer stepped down.
Flug, who was Fischer’s deputy and served as acting governor since the June departure, is the first woman to hold the position.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yair Lapid had overlooked Flug twice for the position, first nominating former governor Jacob Frenkel and then Bank Hapoalim Chief Economist Leo Liederman, but both withdrew their nominations.
