Foreign Ministry Travel advisory in effect for parts of northern Ethiopia

The Foreign Ministry on Thursday issued a travel advisory against visiting the northern Ethiopian regions of Amhara and Oromia, areas plagued in recent months by violence that has claimed hundreds of lives.
The advisory noted that the Ethiopian government declared a state of emergency in Amhara on Wednesday.
This region includes Gondar, where many Ethiopian Jews originated and is a popular site for Israeli visitors. The statement advised Israelis already in Ethiopia to be alert and to stay away from protests. Likewise, Israeli tourists were advised to stay 10 kilometers away from the country's borders with Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan and Kenya.
