Foreign Ministry workers and Finance Ministry to enter mediation

Foreign Ministry workers’ committee representatives and Finance Ministry officials were due to meet Thursday with retired labor court judge Steve Adler in the first mediation meeting aimed at ending the work dispute that has severely hampered Foreign Ministry operations for the last six months.
Jerusalem Labor Court Judge Dita Prozhinin directed the sides last week to agree on a mediator and report to her  by September 15 on progress to solve the dispute over salary and work conditions at the ministry. As a result of the agreement to go to mediation, the worker’s called off their sanctions, and the Finance Ministry retracted plant to subtract 25% from the workers’ salaries this month as a result of the sanctions.
The worker’s committee issued a statement saying they ware looking forward to the beginning of the mediation process, and hoped that it would deal fairly with the unique conditions that foreign ministry workers labor under, including that their spouses have to sacrifice their own careers when accompanying their husbands or wives abroad.
