Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan announced on Wednesday that he is withdrawing the appointment of former IDF officer Gal Hirsch as the next police commissioner.
In a post on his Facebook page, Erdan said that while he consider Hirsch a worthy candidate, the process of legally vetting his suitability for the job - in light of possible conflicts of interests stemming from his previous responsibilities as the head of an arms trading company - was too lengthy.
"Out of a sense of responsibility to the Israel Police, I have notified Gal Hirsch that I will be looking elsewhere to appoint the next commissioner," Erdan wrote.
