Former Knesset speaker Berman dies at 100

Yitzhak Berman, the former speaker of the Knesset who also held various ministerial positions in Israeli governments, died Sunday at the age of 100, according to Israel Radio.
Berman immigrated to pre-state Israel from Ukraine in 1920. In the 1930s, he enlisted in the Irgun underground militia before joining the newly formed Israel Defense Forces in 1948. He served as Knesset speaker after his Likud captured the general election in 1977.
