Former president Ephraim Katzir dies at age 93

Prof. Ephraim Katzir, the fourth president of Israel and considered one of its greatest scientists, passed away on Saturday evening at his home in Rehovot. The 93-year-old biochemist was recently hospitalized at the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot for internal bleeding, but was released due to an improvement in his medical condition. Katzir was president between 1973 and 1978, and a long-time biophysicist at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot. Judy Siegel contributed to this report
