The Tel Aviv Municipality Budget Committee approved a project this week to place bicycles around the city for the public's use. The first phase will see 1,500 bikes at 150 stations around Tel Aviv and . Major European cities have similar successful programs where residents and visitors can rent a bike from one station and return it to another. The Israel Bicycle Association praised the plan's approval and pointed out that the approval of a correction to the Helmet Law for a first reading in the Knesset took the plan out of the deep freeze it had been in for the last two years. The correction would leave wearing a helmet up to the discretion of the adult rider. Children, intercity and off-road riders would still have to wear a helmet whenever they got on a bike.
