Gaza boat activists to be deported from Israel

Interior Ministry authorities said on Monday they are deporting a Nobel peace laureate and former US congresswoman who tried to break the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip last week. Nobel winner Mairead Corrigan Maguire and former Rep. Cynthia McKinney are among eight international activists who remain in Israeli custody after their boat "Spirit of Humanity" was seized trying to reach Gaza. The Interior Ministry said the activists would be deported later Monday. In the Free Gaza movement's most recent attempt to enter the Strip, 21 activists set sail from Cyprus on a ship laden with humanitarian aid. The Navy intercepted the ship Tuesday after it ignored repeated messages saying it would not be allowed to enter Gaza waters and ordering it to turn back.
