Maj.-Gen.Claudio Graziano (),outgoing commander of the UN’s Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), transferredcommand to Maj.-Gen. Alberto Asarta Cuevas () during a ceremony onWednesday.
Theceremony, which took place in Naquora, was attended by high-ranking defenseofficials from , and .
Graziano,who served as UNIFIL commander for three years, said in his farewell speechthat there had been a marked improvement in southern during his tenure, with and theLebanese military adhering to the Blue Line and UN Security Council Resolution1701.
Asartahas previously served as commander of UNIFIL’s eastern sector.
