Greek police fire teargas at Athens protesters

ATHENS - Greek police fired tear gas at protesters who burst through a barrier outside parliament as deputies debated an austerity package vital to secure international funding needed to avert a bankruptcy.
Several thousand protesters waving banners and beating drums had gathered in Syntagma square outside parliament. A surge in the crowd overturned metal barriers, forcing back a line of riot police who responded with tear gas.
