Health Ministry: Rabid dog identified in Metulla

A large, brown German shepherd that was caught after wandering in Metulla in the north last week was found to suffer from rabies. The Health Ministry reported Sunday that three people who were in physical contact with him were identified and given prophylactic treatment.
Any local residents or tourists who were in contact with this wandering dog or other suspicious mammals the Metulla area between January 14 and 28 are asked to contact the Safed District Health Office at (04)6994257 or the nearest district health office. After work hours, go to the nearest hospital emergency room. Dog owners are asked to contact the nearest municipal veterinarian to check if their pets have been properly vaccinated.
If bitten or scratched by a mammal, the ministry advised, wash the wound immediately with running water and soap, disinfect it and go to a district health office or emergency room.
