Herzog on settlement construction plan: "Gov't is acting like political pyromaniacs"

Opposition leader Isaac Herzog responded on Thursday to Israel's decision to approve construction of new housing units beyond the Green Line, saying Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was gambling on the future of the State of Israel.

"The priorities of this government are faulty from their foundation," he said. "Rather than investing money in developing the Negev, the Galilee and poor neighborhoods, they are acting like political pyromaniacs."

The Labor leader added that "instead of internalizing political failures and putting forward a plan that the public can rally around and that can change our international standing, Netanyahu is dragged into a situation where Jerusalem neighborhoods are viewed as settlements."

"We are in the midst of a political landslide," he said, adding that Netanyahu and Liberman need to take responsibility.
