The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ)announced Thursday that it would donate more than $5 million towards heatingbills for the elderly people in as part of its “Warm Winter for the Elderly” initiative.
Working together with the Israeli Electric Corp., the SocialAffairs Ministry and the Infrastructures Ministry, the IFCJ will pay theheating bills for some 134,000 elderly people in .
According to IFCJ President and Founder Rabbi YechielEckstein, this is the first time a philanthropic organization will directlytransfer its donation through the Electric Corp., which will in turn deduct thesum from each eligible person’s bill. This method was chosen in order topreserve the dignity of recipients, and to ensure that the donations reachrecipients as quickly and efficiently as possible, he said.
This is the fourth year in a row for IFCJ’s "WarmWinter for the Elderly" program.
Recipients of the program are those deemed eligibleaccording to National Insurance Institute data.
