ILA to invest NIS 3m. in restoring garbage mountain

The Israel Lands Authority will be investing more than NIS 3 million in order to transform a mountain of garbage along the southern coast of Bat Yam into a green oasis.

As part of the program, the ILA will perform restoration works on the mountain, such as removing waste, sealing the area, draining runoff and treating gas emissions from the garbage, the authority said. All in all, the work is expected to take 18 months.

Afterward, the municipality of Bat Yam will be transforming the newly created open space into a 7.5-hectare park.

The total cost of rehabilitating the mountain and integrating urban nature sites will likely cost approximately NIS 28.5m, according to the authority.

"This is an important project for the rehabilitation and development of a coastal park on the sands and kurkar [sandstone] cliffs, which will serve as an urban and regional nature park," a statement from the ILA said. "In addition, the park will help in removing environmental disturbances and restoring native species to nature."
