IMA chief instructs Meir hospital MDs to stop walkout

Dr. Leonid Eidelman, the chairman of the Israel Medical Association who is currently in the 10th day of his hunger strike to reach an agreement with the Treasury, sent instructions to Meir Medical Center doctors who walked off their jobs on Wednesday.
The physicians, including young medical residents, had unilaterally taken the action without permission from the IMA and "in violation of a decision by the National Labor Court." The doctors’ committee of the Kfar Saba hospital decided to institute a reduced Shabbat schedule that day, even though the IMA had determined that outpatient and inpatient facilities would function normally but non-emergency surgery would be canceled.
The Meir doctors maintained that they were not satisfied with the possible agreement to the dispute that the Treasury and IMA had been working on for months. It was not determined how many returned, as most senior doctors may leave the premises in the mid-afternoons.
