Israel to abolish visa regime with Georgia

Jerusalem and Tbilisi opened negotiations on Thursday to do away with visa requirements for Georgians visiting Israel, Deputy Foreign Minister Zev Elkin announced Thursday.

The announcement came after Elkin met in Tblisi with Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili. Ivanishivil, who visited Israel over the summer, is very keen on establishing closer ties with Jerusalem, and has been interested in dropping the visa requirement for some time.

Israelis do not need a visa to enter Georgia. Israel allows visa-free access to the nationals of some 95 countries around the world if they stay in the country for less than 90 days.
