Israeli and international ships fined NIS 42,000 for sewage dumping

The Environmental Protection Ministry has fined seven ships NIS 6,000 each, for dumping raw sewage into the Mediterranean Sea from the Haifa Port, between September 2015 and June 2016. The ships in question sail under the Israeli, Singaporean, Maltese, Dutch and Panamanian flags, the ministry said.
"Ships anchored in the harbors must comply with the port regulations and with instructions forbidding the release of sanitation waste within the port's jurisdiction," a statement from the ministry said. "The Environmental Protection Ministry warned the agents and owners of the ships that it will continue to monitor the issue and will consider even stricter enforcement measures, including indictments."
