Jerusalem mayor testifies in court about tackling terrorist

Nearly one year after famously tackling a knife-wielding Palestinian terrorist while en route to City Hall, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Wednesday testified at Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court against the 20-year-old Palestinian suspect.
Last February Barkat made international headlines when he helped pin the man to the ground with the aid of his security detail seconds after the suspect stabbed a 30-year-old ultra-Orthodox man in downtown’s IDF Square, and then wildly attempted to stab passersby.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed Barkat exit his vehicle, walk toward the suspect and tackle him to the ground after he dropped the knife. During his testimony, Barkat chronicled the incident, adding that “I did what I expected from a responsible citizen to do.”
