The Jerusalem Municipality issued building permits this week for the reconstruction of apartments badly damaged following the deadly 2014 gas explosion in Gilo.
As part of the resolution, Mayor Nir Barkat will coordinate with contractors, Supergas, and the tenants’ insurance companies to oversee all stages of renewal.
“The Gilo gas disaster was an unusual, unfortunate and tragic event, and I’m glad we’ve been able to offer this outline to tenants so that they can return with dignity as soon as possible to their homes,” said Barkat in a statement. “The municipality will continue to aid in the reconstruction of apartments.”
It remains unclear how many apartments will be renovated, what the costs will be, or when the construction is expected to be completed.
