J'lem planning c'tee: Smadar Cinema will not close down

The 80-year-old Smadar Cinema in Jerusalem's German Colony will not close down despite the intention to sell the complex to real-estate developers. The capital's construction and planning committee said the cinema would be placed on the list of sites that must be preserved, ensuring that its initial purpose cannot be changed. The Hitorerut Yerushalmit movement had asked that the site's sale be prevented out of concern that it would be turned into a residential building. .
