Kahlon expected to resign from Knesset, bringing back MK Hasson

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon is expected to resign from the Knesset but retain his ministerial portfolio next week, bringing back former Kadima MK Akram Hasson as a Kulanu lawmaker.

Kahlon announced his plan at a Thursday night meeting with Kulanu activists in Daliat al-Carmel, the Druse town in which Hasson resides.

The Finance Minister’s resignation comes after the “Mini-Norwegian Law” passed last year, allowing one minister or deputy minister from each party to quit the Knesset and enable the next candidate on their party’s list to enter. The ministers will be able return to the legislature if they quit the cabinet.

Kahlon will be the second minister to use the “Mini-Norwegian Law,” after Education Minister Naftali Bennett who left the Knesset to allow in MK Shuli Moalem-Refaeli (Bayit Yehudi). However, Bennett returned when former Bayit Yehudi lawmaker Yinon Magal resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations.
