Knesset approves increase to car pollution fines

Knesset approves increas

The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee approved on Tuesday increasing the fines for car pollution. Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) proposed the changes which amount to a doubling of fines for cars which are found to exceed pollution levels. The fine will be doubled from NIS 500 to NIS 1,000 with repeat offenders or company cars having to pay NIS 2,000 each time. New fines will also be implemented for heavy vehicles which fail to install a urea-based system to reduce pollution. The new fines were set to go into effect in one month.
