Knesset Finance C'tee allocates NIS 780 mil. to defense

The Knesset Finance Committee Wednesday approved allocating an additional NIS 780 million to the defense budget with funds from a number of government ministries.

Among the ministries mandated to provide funds are the Welfare and Social Services Ministry, Housing Ministry, Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Communications Ministry, Energy and Water Ministry, Environmental Protection Ministry and various pending development projects.

The committee approved the budget following a stormy session and after the Finance Ministry refused to disclose the purpose for the requested funds.

The increase brought the defense budget expenditure from NIS 59.93 billion to NIS 60.7 billion.
