Livni, Mofaz could set primary date next week

Kadima leader Tzipi Livni and her chief rival in the party, MK Shaul Mofaz, will convene next Wednesday in a fateful meeting in which they will try to reach a compromise on a date for the party's leadership race, a spokesman for Mofaz said Wednesday.
Mofaz will ask for the primary to be held as early as February, for assurances that the race would be administered fairly, and for Livni to commit to staying in politics and in Kadima even if she loses the race.
Livni has not decided yet when she wants the race to be held but she has been advised that to distance it from the January 31 Likud primary to avoid looking like Kadima was pushed into primaries by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
