Lone soldiers face difficulties after being released from army, Knesset committee hears

Lone soldiers, immigrants to Israel without immediate family in the country, face significant difficulties adjusting to life in Israel after they have completed their IDF service, the Knesset sub-committee on IDF manpower heard on Tuesday.

Language difficulties, a lack of financial support, and cultural obstacles prevent real integration into Israeli society, officials said.

Sub-committee chairman Likud MK Yoav Kisch instructed the Immigration and Absorption ministry to draw up a plan within three months that would have the state, and not the army, deal with the requirements of lone soldiers after they are released from the IDF.

“We are witnessing a situation in which soldiers do not know who to turn to,” said Kisch. "The most important thing is to have one address for released soldiers. Lone soldiers who chose to leave their lives behind and come and fight with us deserve fair treatment.”
