Magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolts southern Iran

TEHERAN, Iran – Iran's seismological center said a magnitude 6.1 earthquake has jolted a remote mountainous area in southern Iran.
The center said Monday's quake shook a sparsely populated district of Konar Takhteh, some 560 miles (900 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Teheran.
There have been no reports of casualties. The semi-official Mehr news agency says the quake shook the area for about 10 seconds.
The US Geological Survey put the quake's strength at magnitude 5.7.
