Majdal Shams: 5 arrested for rock throwing

Five residents of Majdal Shams were arrested overnight on Tuesday on suspicion of taking part in rock throwing attacks on security forces during 'Nakba' day riots last month.

The arrests signal an intent by the police's northern district to enforce a policy of zero tolerance towards violence disturbances, a message Insp.-Gen. Yochanan Danino has reiterated since taking up his post.

Police set up a special investigation team to track down suspects who were seen hurling rocks, bottles, construction blocks and pipes at security forces.

A total of twenty two residents of Majdal Shams have so far been arrested since the riot.

Eight people have been formally charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and taking part in a violent disturbance.
