Man hiking in Judean Desert valley plummets 80 meters

Some 80 Ein Gedi rescue personnel were attempting to rescue four tourists visiting the northern Judean Desert on Friday, after one plummeted from atop an 80 meter waterfall, and three others stood stranded on a precipice.

The man who fell, a trekker in his 30s, was in serious condition after falling from the edge of the tallest waterfall in the Salvadoura Valley, which is near the northern shores of the Dead Sea.

Ein Gedi rescue services rushed to the scene of the accident, where they were attempted to treat the fallen man.

Three additional hikers that were traveling with the man were also in a precarious situation, trapped on a large boulder some 300 meters above ground.

A helicopter dispatched to the scene attempted to rescue the three, but was unable to remove them from the boulder due to the hazardous nature of the operation, Channel 10 news reported.
