Mazuz: No criminal investigation in Sapir Prize scandal

Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz ruled Thursday that there was no justification for launching a criminal investigation against former Meretz leader Yossi Sarid in the Sapir Prize scandal. A letter sent by Attorney Raz Nezri, senior aide to Mazuz, to the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel read, "We didn't find a basis for launching a criminal prove in the matter," adding that the matter should not be dealt with in the legal sphere. It came following an LFLI petition against Sarid, one of the Sapir Prize judges, after it emerged that his niece had edited the book that won the top award. Alon Hilu, winner of the prestigious prize for literature, was forced to give back the NIS 150,000 award.
