Meridor: Past Likud governments approved W. Bank construction freezes

Negotiations on the future of the settlements are nearing a conclusion, Intelligence Affairs Minister Dan Meridor (Likud) said Monday morning, adding that past Likud governments had decided on West Bank building freezes. Speaking on Israel Radio, Meridor said that there wouldn't be a total halt of construction in Judea and Samaria, but refused to divulge the parameters for choosing where the freezes would indeed be imposed. The current sense of security won't last forever, the intelligence affairs minister proceeded to warn, and Israel must grasp the opportunity to set a real diplomatic process in motion. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government was elected to manage such a process, Meridor said, not to listen to one group or another, but rather act for "the all inclusive national interest."
