Obama, Rouhani speak on the phone in first direct communication since 1979

US President Barack Obama has spoken on the phone with Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on Friday, he told a press briefing.
The two spoke before Rouhani left to return to Tehran after a four-day debut visit to the US to attend the UN General Assembly.
This is the first direct communication between an American and Iranian president since 1979.
