Over 120 rebels hurt in battle for east Libya town

CAIRO - More than 120 Libyan rebels were wounded on Sunday as they fought to dislodge troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi from the eastern oil port of Brega, a rebel spokesman said on Sunday.

"I don't have details at the moment but the news coming from there indicates there is a street war going on between Gaddafi's troops and the rebels and that so far 127 are wounded from our side," Abdulrahman Busm, a spokesman for Libya's rebel National Transitional Council (NTC), said by telephone.

Ten rebels were reported killed on Saturday and 172 wounded as they pushed towards Brega under rocket fire from Gaddafi's positions. The Gaddafi militias and rebels have fought over a stretch of desert to the east of Brega since late April.
