Palestinian official: Abbas taps Hamdallah as unity government PM as cabinet talks stall

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has selected a prime minister from his Fatah party to lead a Palestinian unity government, but a final cabinet lineup remained pending as disagreement continued over the foreign affairs portfolio, AFP reported Thursday.
An official in Ramallah told AFP that Abbas has sent a "letter of designation" to the West Bank-based government's current premier, Rami Hamdallah, in order to appoint a prime minister to head a Fatah-Hamas government.
"The government is ready, but there is only one problem, and that is that Fatah and Hamas reject [former PA foreign minister] Riyad al-Malki as foreign minister, something Abbas is insisting on," AFP quoted the unnamed sources as saying.
