Peace Now: Barak's settlement approval is danger to Israel

Defense Minister Ehud Barak's decision to approve the construction of 455 housing units in the West Bank is a danger to the national interests of Israel, Peace Now Secretary-General Yariv Oppenheimer said Monday. "The response to the demands of the Yesha Council will destroy the relationship with the international community and will bury any chance to arrive at a two-state solution," Oppenheimer added. He said that the settlers had nothing to complain about, since they would be able to build during the nine-month freeze. Peace Now also announced a counter-protest scheduled to take place late Monday afternoon to challenge the laying of a symbolic cornerstone in the E-1 zone of Ma'aleh Adumim.
