Peres receives incoming US ambassador's credentials

"I consider President Barack Obama, the president of the United States, as a friend of the Jewish people and the State of Israel," President Shimon Peres said on Wednesday after receiving the credentials of incoming US Ambassador Dan Shapiro.

"I don't have any doubts about it," he said, "We may have differences but he represents the best tradition of the United States with regards to Israel."

Shapiro said that he felt both honored and humbled to represent the United States and to help make the relationship between the two countries even stronger than it was before.
