President Shimon Peres' spoke of Israel's legacy and social justice at the 65th anniversary special plenum meeting of the Knesset on Tuesday.
"Our legacy makes it necessary for us to keep our ears and hearts open to the poor, the weak, and the needy," he said. "Social justice is essential to Israel. We don't exist to deny anyone rights on the basis of religion or nation."
He also spoke of the responsibility of the MKs to carry out this justice. He told the MKs that they are privileged to be where they are and that they should work for peace, better education and for social justice.
"MKs should work for just laws to realize our traditions and potential," he added.
