Peru: Thousands demand return of artifacts to Machu-Picchu

Thousands of people protested in cities across Peru Friday demanding that in Connecticut-based Yale University return archeological artifacts that were taken from the historic city of Machu-Picchu.
In the nearby city of Cuzco, around 4,000 protesters marched.
American archaeologist Hiram Bingham, who rediscovered Machu-Picchu nearly 100 years ago, took thousands of artifacts from the site, including ceramic dishes and human bones, reported Israel Radio.
Yale says it is legally holding the artifacts, but that it is willing to find a solution that will allow the continuation of scientific research on the items.
Last week, Peruvian President Alan Garcia turned to his US counterpart, Barack Obama, and asked him to help return the Incan artifacts to their place of origin.
